XYZ Racing Pro Rally Coilovers — Mazda MX-5 MIATA / ROADSTER 1998-2005

The NB MX-5 rewards a chassis setup that respects its tail-happy balance rather than fighting it. Stock dampers run out of control quickly on a broken stage road, and the standard spring rates leave the car wallowing through compressions that a Pro Rally specification is built to absorb. This is the platform XYZ Racing’s rally-oriented coilover was developed around: a light, short-wheelbase rear-driver that needs travel, control, and a damper that survives sustained punishment.

Fitment is the 1998-2005 NB chassis – the second-generation roadster with the pop-up headlights gone, the chassis stiffened over the NA, and the 1.6 or 1.8 BP-series engine up front. It is a car that responds well to a properly specified coilover and badly to a budget one.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2005 Mazda MX-5 MIATA / ROADSTER

On a Pro Rally NB you should feel three things immediately. First, the rear axle stops skipping over mid-corner ruts and starts tracking – the damping is calibrated for the kind of vertical inputs a tarmac or mixed-surface stage delivers, not a smooth circuit. Second, turn-in sharpens without the car going nervous on the straights, because a rally-spec damper carries enough low-speed bump control to settle the nose under trail braking. Third, the ride height comes down enough to clean up the geometry without sacrificing the suspension travel the NB genuinely needs over poor surfaces. Repeat-stage punishment is where cheaper kits fade; this one is built to hold its damping character when the oil gets hot.

About the Pro Rally coilover

The Pro Rally sits in the rally-focused tier of the XYZ Racing range, designed for cars that see broken tarmac, gravel transitions, and the kind of high-frequency surface inputs a circuit setup would never tolerate. Construction follows the brand’s standard pattern – a monotube damper body with a separate spring perch for ride-height adjustment independent of preload, and external damping adjustment so the car can be tuned between recce and stage. Spring rates and valving are biased toward maintaining wheel contact over rough surfaces rather than minimising body roll on glass-smooth circuits. Pillowball top mounts where the platform allows it sharpen steering response without the harshness of a circuit-only mount.

Fitment for the Mazda MX-5 MIATA / ROADSTER (1998-2005)

This kit fits the NB-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata / Roadster, internal chassis reference MA24, covering the 1998 through 2005 model years. That spans both the early NB and the facelifted NB2 (2001 on) – the kit covers both. Trim level and 1.6/1.8 engine make no difference to suspension fitment on this platform.

Pick your spring rate, damper, and top-mount spec for the NB below and configure your kit.

Rally gravel/snow suspensions are very professional suspensions and they are designed into two types:

1. Be installed directly with the original chassis. (Amateur type)
2. Be installed after modifying the car body. (Professional type)

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.
