XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda 323 1989-1994

The BG-generation 323 is a featherweight by modern standards, and that is exactly the problem on a loose stage – the stock damping runs out of travel and composure long before the chassis runs out of grip. XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover is built around that reality, giving the 1989-1994 323 the stroke length and rebound control it needs to keep all four tyres planted across ruts, crests and compressions.

Whether you are running a GTX turbo shell, a humble 1.6 SOHC or the BG8Z 4WD platform that quietly punched well above its weight in period, this is a coilover specified for unsealed surfaces rather than smooth tarmac. The MA13 chassis responds well to a softer spring and a long-travel damper – this kit is engineered around that brief.

What this coilover does for your 1989-1994 Mazda 323

Fitted to a BG 323, the Gravel Rally kit transforms how the car deals with mid-corner impacts. Where the standard struts pack down and skip over washboard, the long-stroke damper allows the wheel to follow the surface, which translates directly into traction on exit. Adjustable damping lets you take some sting out of sharp-edged hits without turning the car into a marshmallow under braking. Ride height is wound up rather than down for ground clearance, and the spring rates are pitched soft enough that the lightweight 323 shell does not skip on corrugations. On a 4WD GTX, you will feel the front axle pull harder out of a hairpin because the contact patch is staying loaded through the bumps.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This is a dedicated loose-surface specification from XYZ Racing’s rally range, using a longer damper body and extended shaft travel compared to the tarmac-biased kits in the same catalogue. Construction is monotube with an external reservoir-style damping circuit and rebound adjustment, running softer spring rates wound to suit a sub-1000kg shell. Top mounts and lower brackets are sized for the MA13’s strut arrangement, so the geometry of the front MacPherson layout is preserved through the working range. The whole assembly is built to survive the abuse pattern of a gravel stage – dust, stone strikes and repeated full-travel hits – rather than the heat-soak pattern of a tarmac circuit.

Fitment for the Mazda 323 (1989-1994)

This kit is specified for the BG-generation Mazda 323 with chassis code MA13, covering 1989 to 1994 production. It suits both 2WD hatchback and saloon variants and the BG8Z 4WD turbo platform. Confirm your subframe and strut top configuration before ordering, as later facelift cars carry minor mounting differences.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
