XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Mazda 323 WAGON (TYPE2) 1998-2004

Gravel-stage rally punishes suspension travel long before it punishes grip, and the TYPE2-generation Mazda 323 Wagon’s estate-length wheelbase and rear load bay give XYZ Racing’s Gravel Rally coilover plenty of chassis to work with. Built for the sandstone, snow and silt surfaces that define a rally cross weekend, this kit replaces the 323 Wagon’s stock dampers with a long-stroke, high-travel design rather than a track-focused low-ride setup.

Where a Super Sport or Top Sport coilover chases lap time on smooth asphalt, the Gravel Rally kit is built to survive repeated compression cycles at speed over broken, unpredictable terrain. For a 1998-2004 323 Wagon running rally cross or gravel stage events, that means suspension that stays composed when the surface underneath it doesn’t.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2004 Mazda 323 Wagon

Long-stroke travel gives the TYPE2 Wagon’s suspension room to absorb the sudden compression spikes that come from cresting a rise or landing off a jump at speed, rather than bottoming out and sending that impact straight into the chassis. The inverted tube design keeps the damper’s working components higher off the ground than a conventional shock body, cutting exposure to the stones and debris a gravel stage throws up. Spring rates are set for the load the 323 Wagon actually carries on an event – co-driver, spares, the extra mass an estate body brings over the saloon – so the car settles into a rhythm rather than pogos through washboard sections. On the transition from a fast compound bend into a rutted straight, the extended stroke keeps the tyres tracking the surface instead of skipping across it, which is where time in a gravel stage is actually won or lost.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built the Gravel Rally coilover specifically for rally and rally cross use, where conditions can shift from sandstone to snow to silt within a single stage and the shock absorber ends up the most heavily loaded component on the car. An inverted tube layout is the response to that variability, adapting across surface types rather than being tuned for just one. Long stroke travel paired with a longer spring lets the damper soak up chassis vibration and absorb the aggressive hits that come from bouncing over rough, high-speed ground, while still controlling the extreme g-force loading the chassis takes under hard cornering. Every spring rate offered in this range has been set through testing with a rally racing team rather than worked out on paper alone, so the rates reflect what holds up over a full stage rather than a single hot lap.

Fitment for the Mazda 323 Wagon (TYPE2) (1998-2004)

This kit is built for the TYPE2-chassis Mazda 323 Wagon produced between 1998 and 2004. Confirm your car matches this chassis code and body style before ordering – coilover geometry on the Wagon differs from the 323 saloon and hatch variants sold over the same years.

Spring rates and damper settings for the Gravel Rally kit are configurable to your event and surface – build yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
