XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Lexus GS 300/400 (S140) 1993-1997

Nobody takes an S140 Lexus GS onto gravel stages by accident. The first-generation GS is a rear-wheel drive executive saloon built around the 2JZ straight-six or 1UZ V8 – engines that have earned a reputation for enduring punishment far beyond what Lexus’s engineers originally intended. That durability is what draws a specific type of competitor to the S140 platform for rally and rallycross builds. On loose surface, though, the car’s inherent mass and the height of its centre of gravity create demands that no road-biased suspension can meet: a gravel stage will locate every weakness in a damper that was never designed for the work.

The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover for the Lexus GS 300/400 (S140) is built around what actually happens to this platform at rally pace. Long stroke travel and extended spring specification are built in from the design phase – not retrofitted as a compromise. Every spring rate in the kit was validated by rally team testing before it reached the catalogue.

What this coilover does for your 1993-1997 Lexus GS 300/400 (S140)

The S140 carries considerable kerb mass into stages – the full-length saloon body, the structural rigidity Lexus built in for long-distance cruising, and the weight of a proper V6 or V8 up front. Under hard rallycross compressions, that mass wants to push straight through a conventional damper. The long-stroke architecture here absorbs repeated chassis vibration that a standard unit would transmit directly into the body, preserving structural integrity and keeping the driver’s inputs readable rather than swamped in noise. The inverted tube design resists the bending loads that lateral strikes on sandstone and silt impose on the damper body – loads that a conventional upright tube arrangement will flex under at speed. On direction changes, where the GS’s rear-wheel drive layout generates hard lateral G-force through its long wheelbase, the extended spring geometry keeps the rear axle planted and the car workable.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is an inverted-tube damper unit developed specifically for rally racing and rallycross – conditions where the road surface is actively hostile rather than merely imperfect. The inverted tube layout places the damper body uppermost, the shaft below, which increases rigidity against the bending loads that no smooth-track coilover ever encounters and improves seal tolerance in dirty, gritty environments. Long stroke travel is the kit’s structural core: it is dimensioned to absorb high-speed undulations and repeated hard landings without bottoming out, handling surface types as varied as compacted sandstone, snowpack, and loose silt stages. The extended spring specification manages the sustained G-forces that rally-pace direction changes impose on a saloon chassis. All spring rates in the range have been confirmed through testing by rally racing teams, not simply calculated from baseline data.

Fitment for the Lexus GS 300/400 (S140) (1993-1997)

This kit is built to the S140 chassis specification, covering the Lexus GS 300 and GS 400 across the first-generation production run from 1993 to 1997. The S140 is rear-wheel drive throughout, and this is the platform configuration against which the fitment is rated. Confirm your chassis code is S140 before ordering – the later GS series use different subframe geometry and are not covered by this application.

The S140 is a rarer competition base than most – build yours correctly from the ground up and configure your Gravel Rally kit below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Aluminium top mountAluminiumAAluminium upper mount — a stiff, lightweight housing that locates the damper precisely and resists flex under load.
