XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Lexus ES (XV60) (80mm center-to-center) 2012-2018

The XV60 Lexus ES was never built to survive a rutted, patched-up tarmac stage. Its factory dampers are tuned for isolation on smooth UK dual carriageways, not for soaking up the sudden compressions and camber changes that broken B-road surfaces and stage-style tarmac throw at a nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive luxury sedan. Push this platform hard through a sequence of mid-corner bumps on standard suspension and the body simply can’t keep up with the road.

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally coilover is built for exactly that scenario. Where the standard Super Sport and Top Sport ranges are tuned around circuit or fast-road use, the Tarmac Rally damper is calibrated for repeated, violent surface disruption at speed, giving the ES a setup that copes with rally-style tarmac abuse rather than folding under it.

What this coilover does for your 2012-2018 Lexus ES

Fit this coilover to a 2012-2018 Lexus ES and the biggest change is how the car deals with mid-corner surface breaks – the damper absorbs the impact of an uneven road surface before it can upset the body, rather than letting a big hit translate straight into pitch and roll. That control matters more on the ES than on a stiffer sports saloon, because the factory K-platform chassis is heavier at the nose and relies on the dampers to keep the front tyres loaded through a bump rather than skipping across it. The result is a chassis that suppresses shock through the body on rough tarmac and keeps the tyre’s contact patch working, which shows up directly as more usable front-end traction when you’re back on the throttle out of a rough corner. Stability under load improves too – the ES holds its line through a sequence of imperfections instead of wandering as weight shifts unevenly across the front axle.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally coilover is XYZ Racing’s damper for sealed-stage tarmac rally use, and the tuning reflects that brief directly rather than being adapted from a circuit-focused product. Its valving is set up to soak up hard, repeated hits from broken pavement and big compressions without transmitting that shock straight into the chassis, which is the specific failure mode a factory Lexus ES damper can’t handle at pace. That same tuning is what improves tyre traction on rough surfaces – by keeping the tyre in contact with the road through a bump instead of letting it deflect off-line, the car generates grip where a softer setup would lose it. XYZ built this calibration from its own tarmac rally programme, carrying settings developed on actual stages into the production damper rather than working from theory. For an ES that’s being pushed on demanding UK roads or used for spirited event driving, that background is the point of difference over a generic stiffened coilover.
