XYZ Racing Circuit Master Coilovers — Honda TL UA4-UA5 1999-2003

The UA4/UA5 Honda TL was never built to lap Cadwell. It’s a 1,500kg front-drive saloon with a transverse V6 sitting ahead of the front axle line, and on standard dampers it understeers into every long right-hander and runs out of rebound control by the third flying lap. The Circuit Master is the part of the catalogue aimed squarely at owners who have decided to drag this generation of TL onto a circuit and make it work properly.

This is the top of the Circuit Master ladder for the 1999-2003 TL: a 36-click compression / 36-click rebound damper plus a separate low-speed bleed knob, giving the 9,720 combinations XYZ Racing references for its competition-spec range. It is the same platform the brand uses for its Racing Spec, Drift Spec and Tarmac Rally programmes.

What this coilover does for your 1999-2003 Honda TL UA4-UA5

Drop the front ride height and the UA4/UA5’s nose-heavy weight bias starts working with you instead of against you – turn-in sharpens, the inside front loads earlier, and the long-travel factory understeer goes away. Three-way damping lets you separate the slow, mid-corner roll motion from the high-frequency hits coming off kerbs, so you can stiffen the body in roll without making the car skate over circuit ripples. Braking stability into hairpins improves once the rebound is set tight enough to stop the nose pogo-ing back up under release. Across a 20-minute session the dampers stay consistent – important on a 1,500kg saloon that will cook entry-level kit by lap four. And because compression and rebound are independent, you can soften the kerb-strike on a circuit like Donington’s Old Hairpin without giving up body control on the straights.

About the Circuit Master coilover

The Circuit Master is XYZ Racing’s competition damper, sharing its core architecture with the Racing Spec, Drift Spec and Tarmac Rally kits the brand campaigns internationally. It runs three independent adjustment knobs: high-speed compression, low-speed compression and rebound, giving 9,720 distinct damper settings end-to-end. XYZ states the damper has been validated by its own race teams across multiple international circuits, and the design priority is sustained-lap consistency over road refinement. The small-orifice low-speed bleed circuit is a known characteristic of the kit – drive it over heavy public-road bumps and the oil moving through the bleed passage can produce a faint mechanical note. On circuit, where the surface is flat and the damper is being asked to do its actual job, that disappears. This is a kit built for tarmac competition use, not a fast-road compromise.

Fitment for the Honda TL UA4-UA5 (1999-2003)

Fitment is specific to the UA4 and UA5 chassis codes of the Honda TL built between 1999 and 2003 – the third-generation saloon sold as the Acura 3.2 TL in North American markets and grey-imported into the UK in modest numbers. Spring rates, top mount geometry and damper stroke are set for this chassis only; do not cross-reference to later UA6/UA7 cars.
