XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda TL UA4-UA5 1999-2003

The Honda TL UA4-UA5 is a saloon almost nobody thinks of as a rally car – front-drive, comfort-tuned, with a chassis Honda built around long motorway commutes rather than Welsh forest stages. That is precisely why a proper gravel-spec damper transforms it. Strip the soft factory shocks, fit a long-stroke inverted setup, and the UA4’s inherent stiffness through the bulkhead and rear beam suddenly has something to push against.

These XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilovers are built for the worst surfaces a competition car ever sees: sandstone, snow, deep silt, and the kind of high-speed compressions that fold lesser dampers in half. For a 2.3 or 3.2 V6 TL pressed into stage duty or gravel cross, this is the suspension that survives the second day.

What this coilover does for your 1999-2003 Honda TL UA4-UA5

Long-travel stroke is the headline feature, and it changes the car’s behaviour the moment you leave tarmac. Where the standard shocks bottom out into bump-stops over a crested gravel jump, the inverted XYZ unit keeps the tyre loaded through the full arc of the landing. Spring rates have been validated by working rally teams, so the front end resists the dive that normally unloads the rear of a nose-heavy Honda saloon under heavy trail-braking into a hairpin.

On gravel, weight transfer is everything. The longer spring lets the rear axle squat and find drive out of slow corners – critical on a front-driver where the rear is otherwise dead weight. The inverted tube layout also raises the effective pivot point of the strut, reducing stiction when the suspension is loaded sideways against ruts and camber changes.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

This is XYZ Racing’s dedicated rally and rallycross damper, not a tarmac coilover with softer springs. The construction uses an inverted tube design specifically chosen to handle the variable surfaces a stage car meets in a single event – loose sandstone one section, hard-packed snow the next, churned silt by the final pass. Stroke length is deliberately long to absorb the chassis vibration that destroys conventional shock seals on rough roads.

Spring rates are not picked from a generic catalogue chart. Every rate combination has been tested by rally racing teams in live competition, which is the only meaningful proving ground for a gravel damper. The unit is built to bear sustained G-forces during high-speed cornering and to absorb the violent compressions of attacking a bouncy road flat-out, where lesser dampers blow or fade within a single stage.

Fitment for the Honda TL UA4-UA5 (1999-2003)

These coilovers are built for the UA4 and UA5 chassis Honda TL produced between 1999 and 2003, covering both the 2.3 four-cylinder and 3.2 V6 variants of that generation. Confirm your chassis code in the door jamb before ordering – Honda used the UA designation across multiple model years globally.

Spring rates, ride height and damper options vary by build intent – configure yours below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
