XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Honda CL YA4 2001-2003

The Honda CL YA4 is an oddity in any rally paddock – a JDM Accord-platform saloon with the Prelude-derived F23A under the bonnet and a chassis that was never meant to see a special stage. That makes spring and damper choice unforgiving: the YA4 carries its weight high over the front axle, and on loose surfaces the rear wants to step out long before the front has finished settling. The Gravel Rally coilover is built for exactly this fight.

XYZ Racing developed this damper specifically for rally and rallycross use, where gravel, sandstone, snow and silt all demand different reactions from the same suspension corner. The inverted-tube construction is the headline – it puts the stronger, larger-diameter body at the top where stone strikes and side-loads do their worst, and protects the shaft from the abuse that kills lesser dampers on stage two.

What this coilover does for your 2001-2003 Honda CL YA4

The long-stroke design gives the YA4 the wheel travel it never had as a road car, so the chassis stays planted over corrugations instead of skipping into understeer. Long springs work with that stroke to soak up high-speed compressions without packing down, which matters on a front-heavy saloon that loads its nose hard on every braking zone. You get a chassis that absorbs the worst of a gravel stage and still has damper left over for the next crest. On corner entry the rear settles predictably rather than snapping, so you can carry throttle earlier without lifting to catch a slide that has already started.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

The Gravel Rally is engineered around one premise: on a rallycross or gravel stage, the damper is the single most important component on the car. XYZ Racing’s inverted-tube layout is the response to that – a construction format chosen specifically because road surface conditions on loose-surface events vary corner to corner. The long stroke and tall springs are dimensioned to absorb sustained chassis vibration, attack high-speed bouncy sections without bottoming, and carry the lateral G-loads that build through fast sweepers on shale. Spring rates are not picked off a chart; they have been validated by rally teams running this damper in competition, which is why the rates that come supplied tend to need very little revision for a privateer build. Construction is monotube under the inverted body, with the damping circuit sized for the longer shaft travel.

Fitment for the Honda CL YA4 (2001-2003)

This kit is built specifically for the YA4 chassis Honda CL produced for the Japanese market between 2001 and 2003. Spring rates and stroke length are matched to the YA4 platform – confirm your chassis code before ordering.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
