XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Ford AZTEC 1995-1998

Gravel stage work is unforgiving on every component, and the Ford Aztec’s suspension – designed for ordinary road use in the mid-1990s – carries geometry and spring perches that were never conceived with silt-heavy special stages in mind. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover addresses that gap directly, built not for the smooth-tarmac sprint but for the full-commitment loose-surface stage where the FO01 platform is being asked for everything it has.

Standard damper travel on the Aztec was never adequate for the rapid, large-amplitude inputs a live gravel stage produces. This kit resets the baseline – longer travel, longer springs, inverted construction – for the Ford Aztec as a serious competition tool.

What this coilover does for your 1995-1998 Ford Aztec

Extended stroke geometry absorbs the sustained chassis vibration and high-frequency bouncing that gravel, sandstone, and snow surfaces generate at speed, keeping the Aztec’s wheels in meaningful contact with the road surface where shorter-travel dampers would be pumped through their range before the stage is done. The inverted tube construction reduces unsprung mass and increases structural rigidity under aggressive lateral loads, so the handling balance holds up through high-G corners rather than deflecting under the forces that loose-surface stages produce. Spring rate settings were validated by XYZ’s rally racing team across actual surface conditions – sandstone, snow, and silt – meaning the rates supplied for the Ford Aztec are the product of competitive testing rather than theoretical calculation.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

XYZ Racing built this damper from the ground up for Rally Racing and Rallycross, the most aggressive surface conditions in stage competition. The inverted tube design was developed to handle the specific demands of gravel, snow, and silt stages, where road surfaces deliver rapid, violent inputs at sustained speed. Long-stroke dampers paired with longer springs than a tarmac or fast-road application would use allow the assembly to absorb extreme chassis vibration while carrying the structural load of high-G cornering without fatigue over the course of a full event. Every spring rate in the range was arrived at through testing by XYZ’s own rally racing team, not estimated from a static model. The architecture originates in stage work – this is not a modified street coilover with a revised spring rate and a different label.

Fitment for the Ford Aztec (1995-1998)

This kit covers the Ford Aztec on the FO01 chassis across the 1995 to 1998 model years. Confirm your chassis designation against the supplied fitment reference before ordering. No additional trim or powertrain qualifications are noted in the fitment data for this application.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.

Top mounts included with your kit

Every XYZ Racing coilover kit ships with the upper mounts listed below for your exact chassis — no extra parts to source.

  • Pillow ball + rubber top mountPillow ball + rubberP+Pillow-ball upper with a rubber insert — adds steering precision and camber adjustability while keeping some of the factory mount’s harshness damping.
  • Hardened rubber top mountHardened rubberRHardened rubber upper — firmer than the factory bush for tighter response while retaining road-friendly noise and vibration isolation.
