XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Daihatsu SIRION Rear: Non-ride height adjustable 1998-2005

The first-generation Daihatsu Sirion is a featherweight – well under a tonne, short wheelbase, and on the rally stages of the late 1990s and early 2000s it punched embarrassingly far above its 1.0-1.3 litre capacity. That same kerb weight is exactly why a road car set up on tired OE struts gets unsettled the moment the surface deteriorates, and why a properly damped coilover transforms what this little three-cylinder hatch can do across a B-road or a closed special stage.

The XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally coilover for the 1998-2005 Sirion is built for sealed-surface stage work – the kind of broken, ridge-laced tarmac where a circuit-biased damper would skip and a road damper would simply give up. It is the rally-specification damper in the XYZ range applied to the DI04 chassis.

What this coilover does for your 1998-2005 Daihatsu Sirion

The handling change after fitting a Tarmac Rally-spec coilover to a Sirion is not subtle. Because the car is so light, every kilogram of unsprung mass and every degree of body roll matters more than it would on a heavier saloon – the chassis responds instantly to better damping. Expect sharper turn-in, far less front-end float over mid-corner ripples, and a rear axle that actually stays planted under trail-braking instead of skipping wide. Across patched and undulating tarmac the car settles between bumps rather than pogo-ing on top of them, which is what gives a small-capacity hatch its traction back. Body control tightens up enough that the willing little engine starts to feel quicker, because you are no longer waiting for the chassis to recover before you can get back on the throttle.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

The Tarmac Rally damper is engineered specifically to absorb the impact of uneven pavement. The valving is set up to soak the heavy jolts of crested ridges and broken surfaces without unloading the tyre, which is the single hardest job a stage-rally damper has to do. By suppressing shock through the body and keeping the contact patch loaded, the coilover increases mechanical grip rather than fighting for it. Every damping decision is drawn from XYZ Racing’s own tarmac rally programme – the settings are tuned from competition data, not a generic road-comfort baseline. This is a sealed-stage tool. Note that this particular Sirion fitment is the non-ride-height-adjustable version of the platform; the damping work is what is doing the heavy lifting here.

Fitment for the Daihatsu Sirion (1998-2005)

This coilover is built specifically for the DI04 chassis Daihatsu Sirion produced between 1998 and 2005. Critically, it is the non-ride-height-adjustable variant for this application – confirm that matches what you need before configuring. Fitment covers the model’s full production run in this generation.
