XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — BMW 5 SERIES F10 2010-2017

The F10 generation 5 Series was never conceived as a stage car. It is a long-wheelbase executive saloon with a kerb weight north of 1.6 tonnes, a sophisticated multi-link rear, and standard dampers tuned for autobahn composure rather than yumps and compressions. Bolting a circuit coilover onto an F10 destined for loose-surface use would crucify the chassis on the first stage; the stroke runs out, the damper overheats, and the underbody starts collecting Welsh slate.

That is precisely the problem the XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built to solve on the F10 platform. This is the inverted-tube, long-stroke specification from XYZ’s rally programme, ported to a chassis with the unusual brief of a 2010-2017 BMW 5 Series running gravel-stage pace notes.

What this coilover does for your 2010-2017 Bmw 5 Series F10

The first thing you feel is travel. The Gravel Rally setup runs a deliberately long stroke and a tall spring, so the F10’s substantial mass has somewhere to go when the suspension is loaded on a fast crest or pitched into a compression. That means the bumpstops stay out of the conversation on rough sections, and the tyre contact patch keeps doing useful work. Inverted-tube construction puts the larger-diameter housing at the top, which improves bending stiffness through the strut body – useful on a chassis as long and as nose-heavy as the F10, where the front struts take a beating under braking into loose hairpins. Spring rates are pitched for the kind of repeated high-G cornering and aggressive direction changes a 5 Series is not normally asked to deliver, so the car settles rather than wallows after a yump.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

Of the four use-case families in the XYZ Racing range, Gravel Rally sits at the most punishing end. The brief is the loose, mixed-surface stage – sandstone, snow, silt, broken tarmac – where the damper is doing more work per minute than in any other form of motorsport. To meet that, XYZ uses an inverted-tube damper design rather than a conventional twin-tube, paired with a long stroke and a long spring so the system can absorb a vibrating, broken surface and still have travel in reserve when a high-speed bouncy section transitions into a heavy braking zone. Spring rates across the line are not arrived at in a CAD office; XYZ states each setting is validated by an active rally team in competition. For a heavyweight saloon like the F10, that long-stroke / inverted philosophy is the only credible starting point.

Fitment for the Bmw 5 Series F10 (2010-2017)

This kit is built specifically for the F10 chassis-code 5 Series produced between 2010 and 2017. It is the standard saloon variant – confirm bodystyle and any factory adaptive-damper hardware on your car before ordering, and select the spring rate option appropriate to your stage profile.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
