XYZ Racing Racing Spec Coilovers — Aston Martin DB9 2004-2016

The DB9’s bonded aluminium VH platform was designed around grand-touring composure – a chassis built to cover ground with authority, not to be worked hard through chicanes for a full session. Yet the architecture underneath is more capable than the factory calibration reveals: double-wishbone geometry at all four corners, a rear-mounted transaxle giving near 50/50 weight distribution, and a V12 that builds speed with the kind of progressive delivery that rewards good chassis balance. The Racing Spec coilover kit is the intervention between what the DB9 is from the factory and what it can become on a UK circuit.

Standard DB9 dampers are set wide – compliant enough for the motorway, soft enough to handle the weight of a full grand-touring load over long distances. Replace them with the Racing Spec setup and the same car that felt composed at 90 mph across France becomes something considerably sharper at Brands Hatch or Donington. The transaxle layout helps: front-end push is a structural problem on nose-heavy GTs; the DB9 doesn’t share that burden, and with properly calibrated damper rates it carries corner speed very well.

What this coilover does for your 2004-2016 Aston Martin DB9

Fitting the Racing Spec kit sharpens every dynamic response the stock setup softens by design. Body roll under lateral load reduces materially, braking pitch tightens, and the V12’s force at corner exit connects to tyres that are better planted throughout the weight transfer. The transaxle’s natural balance across the axles means that with ride height lowered and the centre of gravity dropped, the DB9 develops genuine neutrality under load – a trait the factory tune partially masks. Damper calibration data drawn from WTCC competition replaces the OEM’s compliance-led tune with settings that have been validated under the sustained loads of a race weekend, not just a test road.

About the Racing Spec coilover

The Racing Spec is XYZ Racing’s competition-derived product line, with damper settings developed through direct participation in racing events including the WTCC – World Touring Car Championship level competition. Those settings are not extrapolated from road-car testing; they reflect how a damper actually performs under the thermal and mechanical demands of extended circuit running. Ride height is adjusted through the coilover body, keeping geometry change consistent at the lowered position. For DB9s running significant power, aero, or chassis modifications – and for cars prepared to A-class competition standard – XYZ Racing offers a bespoke specification route: supply full details of your upgraded components and your intended circuit, and the dampers can be built to that exact requirement.

Fitment for the Aston Martin DB9 (2004-2016)

This kit is confirmed for the Aston Martin DB9, chassis code AS02, across the full production span from 2004 to 2016. That range covers both the coupé and Volante, which share the same VH platform suspension architecture throughout. The DB9 ran without major suspension geometry changes across this period, so fitment is consistent from early cars through to the final 2016 production models.
