XYZ Racing Tarmac Rally Coilovers — Alfa Romeo MITO (Cancellation Kit for Electronic Damping) 2008-2020

The Alfa Romeo MITO’s factory DNA system gave AL16-C cars electronically variable damping on demand, switching responses through three modes at a button press. On a sealed tarmac stage, that adaptability becomes a liability: the software reacts to surface inputs on its own terms, and its comfort-biased defaults compound on the rough, uneven tarmac where you need a fixed rate, a planted front axle, and no interference from a control unit trying to second-guess your inputs. This Tarmac Rally kit replaces the active damper hardware entirely, fitting a mechanically calibrated coilover in its place.

Cancelling the OEM electronic system removes the control unit from the equation and returns the MITO’s chassis behaviour to direct mechanical authority. XYZ Racing developed the Tarmac Rally series from closed-road stage running, and the calibration reflects that context from the ground up.

What this coilover does for your 2008-2020 Alfa Romeo MITO

The MITO’s short wheelbase and transversely mounted engine concentrate braking and steering loads squarely on the front axle – useful in competition, but a characteristic that amplifies any compliance weakness under load. The Tarmac Rally coilover is designed to absorb the sharp jolt of large surface irregularities and crests without losing tyre contact, keeping the front axle planted through the braking zones where the car’s FWD layout demands it most. Suppressing body movement through compressions maintains the MITO’s natural agility without the secondary oscillation that unsettles a light hatchback mid-corner. The outcome is improved front traction on uneven tarmac and the stability margin to carry committed speeds into rough, undulating sections – the conditions this unit was built around.

About the Tarmac Rally coilover

XYZ Racing’s Tarmac Rally series draws its settings directly from sealed-stage tarmac rally experience rather than adapted road or circuit geometry. The calibration targets the specific demands of closed-road competition: absorbing high-amplitude bumps across uneven surfaces, controlling body movement through sustained compressions, and maintaining tyre contact on the rough tarmac that characterises real-stage conditions. On the MITO specifically, the kit includes the cancellation components needed to replace the factory electronic damping unit – this is a clean substitution for the AL16-C’s active hardware, not a workaround alongside it. Ride height adjustability allows setup changes between events and different stage profiles, giving the driver control over stance and corner weighting that the OEM system never permitted.

Fitment for the Alfa Romeo MITO (2008-2020)

Chassis code AL16-C covers the Alfa Romeo MITO variants fitted with the factory electronic damping option. This Tarmac Rally kit is designed specifically for that configuration – the cancellation hardware replaces the OEM active damper rather than working around it. Coverage spans the full MITO production run from 2008 through to 2020.
