XYZ Racing Gravel Rally Coilovers — Alfa Romeo 156 GTA 2002-2005

The 156 GTA’s 3.2-litre Busso V6 puts all of its output through the front axle – on tarmac that’s already a demanding ask; on gravel, snow, or silt, the physics become genuinely unforgiving. The XYZ Racing Gravel Rally coilover is built for exactly that environment: long-travel dampers capable of absorbing the sharp, unpredictable impacts of broken-surface competition without sacrificing the front-end feel the driver relies on to keep a front-heavy FWD car on line through loose corners.

Alfa Romeo’s 156 platform has a touring-car lineage, and the GTA variant was taken seriously in circuit competition from the moment it left Bologna. Gravel-stage rallying asks something categorically different of the suspension – repeated large-amplitude hits at speed, often with one wheel unloaded, on surfaces that change character between stages.

What this coilover does for your 2002-2005 Alfa Romeo 156 GTA

Front-axle management is everything on a FWD platform at rally pace. With the driven and steered wheels being the same contact patches, keeping them planted on loose surfaces determines both traction out of corners and braking stability into them. The long-stroke, long-spring geometry of the Gravel Rally kit allows the GTA’s front suspension to absorb ruts, crests, and sudden surface changes without transferring the impact directly through to the steering. Inverted tube construction also reduces unsprung mass at the front end, helping each wheel track the surface independently rather than being thrown by sudden ground-level impacts. Over the course of a gravel stage, that translates to a front axle that remains readable under load rather than becoming progressively harder to manage.

About the Gravel Rally coilover

Rallycross is widely regarded as the most punishment-intensive discipline in motorsport, and the Gravel Rally range is designed with that reality at its centre. XYZ Racing developed an inverted tube configuration for this kit, chosen for its ability to meet the demands of sandstone, snow, and silt – surfaces that impose very different deflection and rebound characteristics on the same damper within a single event. Long stroke and long spring geometry are the core engineering decisions: the stroke accommodates the large wheel travel required on high-speed gravel stages, while the spring length distributes energy absorption progressively rather than spiking load at the bump stop. The result handles the extreme lateral G-forces generated in fast, loose-surface cornering without losing composure on the straights between them. All spring rate settings in this range have been validated by XYZ Racing’s rally team under competition conditions before production sign-off.

Fitment for the Alfa Romeo 156 GTA (2002-2005)

This kit is specified for the Alfa Romeo 156 GTA (chassis designation GTA), covering the full 2002 to 2005 production window. The suspension geometry and spring rates reflect the GTA’s front-biased weight distribution and the sustained demands of competitive gravel-stage use.

The Gravel Rally kit for the 156 GTA is built for competition from the ground up – configure yours using the spec selector below.

This damper is mainly design for Rally Racing or Rally Cross. In all racing events, road condition of Rally Cross is the most aggressive one. Hence, it means that the shock absorber is the most important utensil during the Rally gravel competition. We develop inverted tube design to meet each different road condition as sandstone, snow or silt. Long stroke and long spring which enable to absorb chassis vibration, aggressively attack from high speed bouncy road and bear extremely G-force when turning. All spring rate setting are tested by Rally Racing team.
